This renovation project, in North Vancouver reimagines the home by opening the main floor plan to seamlessly connect the kitchen, living, and dining areas, while reintroducing materials and details that honor the home’s vintage character.
New cedar was integrated throughout, complementing the original ceiling. Most notably, the central walls on the main floor — creating a circulation loop through the foyer, kitchen, dining, and living areas — are clad in vertical shiplap cedar. This cedar feature adds warmth to the heart of the home while embedding functional elements such as kitchen millwork, appliances, coat and pantry closets, built-in bench seating, and display surfaces.
The family room features a built-in banquette that transitions gracefully between the levels. The banquette’s thickened backrest doubles as a raised display surface, creating an open yet comfortable threshold between the spaces. The family is enhanced by an acoustic cork ceiling and blue grass-cloth walls. A new brick fireplace, inspired by 1970s design, adds to the inviting atmosphere, making it the perfect retreat on cold, rainy winter days.
